Inward Goods Festival 2023
Photos by Airlie Brett, Annika Ledet, Georgie Donohue, James De Bono & Mayah Lasky
Annually for the last 3 years a small team of around 10 friends and I enlist the help and talents of our local community to bring to life an event showcasing the best and brightest upcoming artists of Melbourne and greater Victoria. The last year was special no doubt, in the sense of accomplishment that we all feel and the overcoming of obstacles to reach the desired outcome.
Each iteration presents its own challenges, from conception to planning, working with grants and funding, councils, EPA permits, artist contracting, infrastructure building, curation, volunteers, staff, project delivery, weather... A lot of moving parts create opportunities for things to go wrong and despite continuous tests, we managed to put on a mesmerizing show which - with days to spare and to our gratitude - sold out.
Inward Goods Festival will be taking a year long hiatus as many of our core crew have gone through changes in circumstance and in life; moving state, having children, and the magnetism of our own careers outside the beautiful family which this event subsists off.
In saying that, I am happy to relive some memories through this careful selection of photos by professional photographers and patrons alike. It's a testament to the power of our collective ambition and resilience that this even comes into existence. Inward Goods is without large-scale government funding, and without support of private funders. Truly a passion project which takes a village to raise.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Until the next time.
